As it happens it was a Saturday night and LuChu and her sister Liliana were home bored. Mom only bought one gourmet elk antler and the girls had been fighting over it all night. LuChu had finally secured the bone and was guarding it ever vigilantly from the jaws of Liliana when there was a loud THUD! outside.
His name was Rocky. He flew by night, guided by the ring of shadow. The girls had heard him in the night, breaking limbs as he crawled in the branches, crunching leaves as he made the perimeter of the house…cursing when he stumped his toe. The girls dreamed of encountering the creature that made so much noise.
Surely he must taste so good since he teased so often.
At once they pounced!
The girls were lightening fast in a blur of wiggles, shakes and pulls. LuChu being the quick one, grabbed Rocky first, quickly followed by Liliana. They began to pull and Rocky let out a scream.
Liliana disappeared while LuChu being a brave little dog, threw Rocky on his back and let out a warning growl. “Are you the creature that keeps us in trouble for barking?” LuChu demanded to know.
Rocky was unsure. His pause was answer enough for LuChu and she put him in the blue carpeted dungeon. She made him sit in the corner with a malnourished monkey named JoJo and a dirty sock. Rocky’s eyes nearly popped out of his head with fear.
But no sooner had she thrown him in the blue carpeted dungeon when LuChu heard a noise outside. She rushed to her private look out window. “Sister” she barked “Come Quick! There are strange noises again!”
Liliana appeared by her sister and peered out the window. Indeed, there were suspicious noises coming from outside. “But this means…” Liliana began, “Rocky isn’t the one causing the ruckus” LuChu finished.
The girls knew what must be done. They must release Rocky. However, it became quite the ride for Rocky as both girls fought over who was to release him. “These girls are crazy.” Rocky thought to himself.
The girls struggled all the way to the door when there was a loud crunch nearby. LuChu darted towards the noise while Lilana turned around to see where it came from. Rocky saw his chance to escape.
He quickly, without a moment’s hesitation, guided by his ring of shadow, flew into the air. “See ya later girls!” he squealed with joy.
Liliana realizing Rocky had escaped from his release, looked up just in time to see him fly off into the night. She was always a moment too late, always to slow it seemed and she sighed in defeat.
Well girls, at least Saturday night wasn’t so boring afterall.
